About

Sheila has Electromagnetic Radiation Specialist certification through the Building Biology Institute. She has 21 years of public school service as a credentialed teacher. With both of these qualifications, she is someone who can measure and assess the EMFs in homes and has the skill to communicate these numbers and what they mean in a very crystal clear way. It is her goal for clients to know what is going on electrically in their home and teach them how to assess their homes on their own. As a teacher, she knows the value of independent learners.

Her education background includes a Bachelors of Arts degree with a major in English and a minor in journalism from the California State University, Stanislaus. She also holds a certificate for Teaching English to Students of Other Languages. She can speak a little Spanish because of classes she took while in college and communicating with parents in a summer migrant reading program.

Prior to her teaching career, she was the managing editor of a small, rural, community newspaper for three and a half years, covering city council, planning commission, school board, business community, as well as writing feature stories about people, places, and things in the area. Explaining concepts so people can understand them easily is something she enjoys doing. Spreading the word is another gratifying activity.

Finding the Building Biology profession was a process. She began years earlier accumulating experience in the EMF world as someone with Electro Hypersensitivity, EHS. She had her home assessed for radio frequency in 2016 by another Building Biologist EMRS. After following his recommendations, four health symptoms melted away, as long as she stayed out of high wireless RF fields. At work, she utilized the Americans With Disabilities Act for EHS individuals and was allowed to teach in a portable without a wireless access point. She hardwired the computers in the classroom and was able to teach without any restrictions on the quality of her instruction to students. She was one of those EHS individuals who could continue to work and live doing the same activities as before the disability. She gave input to Los Angeles Unified School District board members in 2018 concerning an accommodation policy they were developing to help the EHS teachers and students in their district.

Getting back to nature has always been in the background in whatever she was doing or wherever she was. Planting oak trees, creating a school garden, meditating in her own backyard garden, reading about gardens or appreciating the silence of a forest. There is something in nature that calls all of us back to home. Peeling back the layers of EMF is just another path towards this goal.

It is an isolating and fearful predicament to have EHS in a world that still denies the realities of the physics behind the health effects. She knows how frustrating it is to go to doctors with mystery ailments that cannot be healed by modern medicine. The teacher in her made it her duty to educate her doctor and other doctors who came later. People with EHS are not experiencing psychosomatic effects, and Sheila knows this and can be supportive to clients in the work of EMF assessment and remediation. It is very gratifying when she sees someone release themselves from their electric cage. She remembers that same feeling with a smile.
